My name is Randy West and I own Professional Building Consultants, Inc. (PBC) in Prescott, Arizona. PBC was established early in 1993, and inspecting homes and buildings has been (and is) my only business. I have inspected over 8000 homes in the Prescott area.
My inspections take 3 to 4 hours, which does not include the time to prepare the report. My reports are thorough and comprehensive, yet the computer generated narrative report is easy to understand. I describe my reports as a combination owner’s manual and honey-do list. Each section (Roofing, Plumbing, etc.) starts on a new page. There are maintenance tips and a glossary in each section, where they should be. These are not ‘canned’ maintenance tips. The maintenance advice was written by me and applies to our weather and the most common systems in our area.
The report has many photos and is a large file. I will post the report on the web the day after the inspection and email you a link to the report. This allows you to cut and paste a link to share the report, rather than having to email a large file.
I am a Certified Home Inspector (CHI # 38451) with the Arizona Board of Technical Registration. All home inspections exceed the Standards of Professional Practice for Arizona Home Inspectors. I do not work on homes I inspect, nor do I refer contractors or repairmen.
I am a Certified Inspector with the American Society of Home Inspectors, (ASHI®, ACI# 102673). ASHI is the recognized leading organization of professional home inspectors. ASHI members have passed difficult exams and are required to take continuing education classes. ASHI’s Standards of Practice have become the national standard for home inspections. Inspectors that are not an ASHI Certified Inspector often advertise that their reports meet the ASHI Standards of Practice, but you have no assurance they will and no recourse if they do not. Only ASHI members can use the ASHI logo; this is your assurance of quality.
I am a member of the Arizona Chapter of ASHI. The Arizona chapter is large and very active, and has several education seminars each year.
I am very involved in my profession. I served on the Arizona ASHI Board of Directors for over 12 years, as District Director, Treasurer, Vice President and two terms as President. I served on and chaired national ASHI committees. I currently serve on two committees for the Arizona Board of Technical Registration- the Enforcement Advisory Committee and the Home Inspector Rules and Standards Committee.
Since 2005 I have written a bimonthly column in The Prescott Courier. I have written articles in several state and national trade publications. I have been interviewed on talk radio shows and television shows, including ABC news in Phoenix. I have been a presenter or speaker at numerous home inspector classes. I have given numerous presentations to related professions, in particular Realtor organizations.
And in my spare time I still manage to inspect a few homes every week.
